What does a ‘Room Parent’ do?

Glad you asked! The Room Parent program exists to support teachers in class-specific needs.
This usually happens in a few ways:

  • Organize classroom parties (Fall, Winter and Valentine’s Day)

  • Help with teacher appreciation activities (birthdays, Teacher Appreciation Week)

  • Share PTO announcements and encourage class participation in fundraisers and events

How much time does it take?

Fair question! Being a Room Parent can take as much or as little time as you have to give.

Generally speaking, you’ll spend about 1 hour preparing for each party, including emailing the volunteers who signed up at back-to-school night and planning the party activities. Then you’ll spend about 1 hour attending each party, hosting the activities and ensuring fun is had by all!

There are occasional times throughout the year the PTO may ask our Room Parents to help with a teacher appreciation event, but the time involved is minimal.
